Accommodating six guests, this three-storey detached home has been beautifully upgraded and offers a spacious and stylish self-catering home for your next East Neuk break. Bold and vibrant colours combined with quality furnishings and carefully chosen accessories create an opulent and welcoming home, ready for you to relax and enjoy from the moment you arrive.
Entering The House on the Square, there is a spacious entrance porch which leads through to the dining room. The curved wall draws you towards the wood burning stove and the dual aspect windows stream light over the large dining table. A useful cloaks area leads to a WC where the panelled walls and port hole mirror give a nautical feel. The well-equipped kitchen is bright and has plenty of space for guests to cook together. A separate utility room provides more cloakroom space, houses some appliances and also gives access to the side entrance of the home – perfect for coming in after a cold-water swim or beach walk with the dog.
On the first floor is the lounge with its range of comfortable seating and smart TV and the super kingsize bedroom with en-suite shower room. Both rooms on this level offer glimpses of the harbour and sea beyond. A further staircase leads to the upper level which has the double bedroom and the bunk room. Again, both rooms have views towards the sea and are spacious and light. The bunk room has a very high-quality, solid set of bunk beds; the lower bunk is suitable for adults or children and the top bunk, due to clearance head height, is suitable for children aged 5 to 12. The luxury bathroom completes the upper level and has a shower over the bath.
The House on the Square benefits from off-street parking for two vehicles and has an EV charging point which guests may add to their booking if required.
A quiet fishing village, the harbour at St Monans is still home to fishing boats and the nearest neighbour to The House on the Square is a shellfish distributor who sends the local catch across the country. You can sample the local specialities at the East Pier Smokehouse just across the road and there is also an AA rosette restaurant, a café and a takeaway so plenty of options if you don’t fancy cooking every night. The Fife Coastal Path is literally on the doorstep and you can easily reach the neighbouring villages and towns on foot, taking in spectacular scenery and perhaps even spotting a pod of dolphins on the way.
Popular with walkers and photographers, the East Neuk also attracts those seeking a relaxing break. There are regular music events and arts festivals as well as farmers markets celebrating the amazing local larder. Golfers can book a round of golf at one of the many local courses, with several renowned courses – including St Andrews, Crail, Anstruther and Dumbarnie (Leven) – within 15 minutes’ drive. Families can enjoy collecting shells and exploring rockpools at the local beaches, try out paddle boarding at the nearby activity centres or take a wild swim in one of the local tidal pools.
The East Neuk is a very dog-friendly area and The House on the Square welcomes well-behaved pets by prior arrangement. Edinburgh is approximately one hour by car and Glasgow two hours, so it’s an ideal location for a short break not too far from home or as a base from which to explore Scotland further.
