We have eight trails for you to chose from starting from different locations around the area.
Buckhaven - Fishing, Heritage and...Dinosaurs?! On this 2.5km walking trail, we will see some amazing views over the Firth of Forth along the way, and might even bump in to some Dinosaurs?! Well, ok, they're only paintings, but they are quite incredible. We'll wander some of the Fife Costal Path, take part in an assault course (optional of course), visit the local museum and check out some delicious local produce! Buckhaven was Scotland's second largest fishing port with a rich history in shipbuilding.
Crusoe's Footsteps - This 1km wheelchair accessible, flat route through Lower Largo will give you a background to the history of the area. We'll learn about the people who lived in Lower Largo and how things have changed over the years. We'll learn how the sea has both provided for the local people, but also taken away. And of course, we'll learn a little bit about one of Britain's most famous sailors, Alexander Selkirk...better known as Robinson Crusoe!
Leven to Lower Largo - On this 5.4km route, we'll be exploring the Fife Coastal Path, Silverburn Park, Leven town centre and much more! We'll see where the famous Jack Vettriano used to work and the landscapes he was inspired by. We'll visit the stunning Silverburn Park, home to the best scones in Fife. While there are no steps on this trail, the surface can be uneven; off-road wheelchairs and scooters suitable.
Methil Heritage Trail - Methil is a fascinating place with lots of history and culture which you explore on this 3.2km wheelchair accessible trail. We will learn about life on the rough sea, the tough conditions working underground and the future of clean energy for all. It's reported that WWII both started and finished in Britain here in Methil, and it has been home to some remarkable historical achievements. Along the route, there are refreshments, rest breaks, art galleries, souvenir shops and Methil’s own museum.
Letham Glen - Explore this stunning woodland valley on this 2km walk and learn about mining, nature and...a Grizzly Bear?! Your experience will vary with the seasons (and the weather!). In spring the trees ahead of you are covered with beautiful pink cherry blossom, and further up the Glen you’ll see bluebells and primroses under the newly-in-leaf woodland. In autumn the leaves are a riot of golden colours. Benches are situated at various points on the trail for you to relax and enjoy the woodland.
The Wemyss Coastal Trail - a 6km walking adventure that will take you along the Fife Coastal Path to some of our most amazing places. On this trail, learn about the mining in the area, the history and carvings of the Picts at Wemyss Caves, and take a visit to MacDuff castle. This trail will partially follow Fife Coastal Path, travelling South West through Buckhaven, East Wemyss and onto West Wemyss. The route has steps and uneven terrain so good shoes are advised.
The Upper Largo Heritage Trail - Explore this lovely village that dates back to medieval times on this 1.6km wheelchair friendly route. Our trail explores the village exploring the old buildings and the people that once lived in them, their stories and how Upper Largo fitted in with the rest of Scotland throughout the centuries. We'll get great views of Largo Bay from our elevated position.
