The Castle Course sits high on a craggy clifftop where mighty Kinkell Castle once stood lookout. Today, the long-gone castle’s farmland has been transformed into a first-class golf course with spectacular, if potentially-distracting, views over St Andrews, St Andrews Bay and the North Sea.
Hugging the rugged headland, The Castle Course provides an excellent test of golfing skills and expertise – especially when the wind whistles across over the clifftop tees, fairways and greens.
Best played as a left-to-right dogleg. Aim to place your ball short of the fairway bunkers. From the left side you have a straightforward approach; from the right you will have to deal with two greenside bunkers, so use an extra club.
