This is the course where golf began; where it was honed into a game requiring skill, accuracy and focus; where golf clubs were perfected; where rules were formulated; where the world’s greatest golf championships have been won by the world’s greatest golfers. And host to The Open Championship a record 30 times.
Yet despite its iconic status, The Old Course remains a public course, open to all. Stride across the Swilcan Bridge with your clubs, aim for the safety of the Elysian Fields on the 14th and avoid the par-destroying Valley of Sin guarding the 18th green. The Old Course – 600 years of golf history just waiting to be played.
One of the widest fairways in golf but there is out of bounds left and right. Aim left to centre, towards the small gorse bush at the edge of the Swilcan Burn. Play the second to the middle of the green and take the burn out of play.
