Designed by Old Tom Morris after he’d worked his magic on the stretch of St Andrews Links now known as The Old Course, The New Course is a classic test of links golf – and is widely considered to be the St Andrews Links course with the best layout.
Winding a traditional nine-holes-out and nine-holes-in along St Andrews Links, The New Course boasts undulating fairways, challenging greens and unforgiving bunkers. And although not as famous as its St Andrews Links neighbour, The New Course is a worthy alternative – or addition – to a round on The Old Course.
Aim to play short of the mound guarding the green. There is a clear view down the green from the left hand side of the fairway. From the right, the greenside bunkers front and back will come into play. You are never out of bounds if your ball lands on the Old Course.
