Whether new to the game, looking to perfect your swing, chip shots and putting skills or warming up for the other courses at St Andrews Links, Balgove’s ideal.

The only nine-hole course at the Home of Golf, Balgove is also an excellent – and affordable - choice for junior golfers, novice golfers and families. Featuring wide fairways, shallow bunkers and gently rolling greens, the Balgove consolidates St Andrews Links’ reputation for providing first-class, immaculately-maintained courses for all ages, all abilities and all golf handicaps.

And with the same surroundings, weather and atmosphere as the other courses in St Andrews, playing golf at Balgove is accompanied by a similar sense of achievement.

Prepare to play our course

The Balgove holds a special place in the hearts of a generation of young golfers here in St Andrews. A place for laughter, fun and learning, and the first steps for many beginner golfers, it really is the perfect course to begin your journey into golf.

Whilst the course is best suited to beginners and juniors, it still demands precision around the greens. With smaller putting surfaces than the other courses on the Links, solid chipping is key for putting together a good score.

Featuring three par 4’s and six par 3’s, you don’t always need a driver on the Balgove. Instead, utilise your irons for accurate tee shots to set up good approach positions.

As with all St Andrews Links courses, the wind can be a factor. Strong winds will affect ball flight and club selection, keep the ball lower when playing into the wind and take an extra club when playing into.

what golfers say

A great place for beginners or to refine your short game.

Dave Woodford, St Andrews (hcp 22)

My ten-year-old granddaughter’s first game of golf – and she enjoyed it so much, it definitely won’t be her last. Balgove’s the ideal course for an intergenerational golfing outing.
