Leven Links is one of the oldest golf courses in the world. Initially, golf was played on nine holes amongst the ‘bents, sandhills and windlestraie’ of the sandy grazing ground bordering Leven Beach. In 1868, following input from Old Tom Morris, Leven Links opened - the first course with 18 separate greens and 18 separate tees. The exhibition match held to celebrate the occasion was won by 17-year-old Open Winner, Young Tom Morris.
A six-time Open Championship final qualifying venue, Leven Links has stood the test of time and continues to host leading amateur events and international matches to this day.
A solid opening hole where depending on the direction of the wind par is a good score. A drive down the centre or slightly right of the fairway leaves you with a mid iron to the middle of the large undulating plateau green which is set some twenty yards on top of the ridge.
