The first mention of golf being played in Falkland was in 1503, when James V played the Earl of Bothwell when the Royal Court was at Falkland Palace. There’s no record of where this noble round took place but for centuries, ‘gowf’ has been played on Falkland’s common ground, The Myre – now the site of Falkland Golf Club’s 9 hole course.
The course opened in 1902 and rolls across the gentle rolling landscape that surrounds the charming village of Falkland – with historic Falkland Palace and the nearby Lomond Hills providing a spectacular backdrop to every game of golf here.
An accurate drive is needed to get your round under way.
The burn awaits short drives and any wayward left or right could find out-of-bounds. For those who find the fairway, take the opportunity to turn and enjoy a splendid view of Falkland Castle. The approach shot is to a tight green protected by a bunker front right.
