Widely acknowledged as one of Fife’s finest Parkland courses, Pitfirrane has been home to Dunfermline Golf Club, which was founded in 1887, since 1953. This undulating, meticulously maintained course has an unusual layout, with five Par 5s, five Par 3s and several dogleg holes – a combination which offers a challenge to low-handicap players while remaining highly playable to less experienced golfers.
Dunfermline Golf Club’s 19th Hole is 600-year-old Pitfirrane Castle – officially the world’s oldest golf clubhouse. A golden, turretted landmark in the Dunfermline countryside, Pitfirrane Castle’s interior is equally striking, with medieval woodwork, Flemish-stained glass and an ornate plaster ceiling in the dining room.
No need for a driver. A nice 3 wood will leave a short iron to the green. Left side of fairway is best and watch out for the bunkers on the right.
