Although golf’s been played on the sandy grasslands at Dumbarnie for centuries, Dumbarnie Links has only been open for five years. The first tee shot was struck on May 29, 2020 and since then, golfers from near and far have been experiencing the wonderful challenge of playing a top-rated golf course which follows the traditional links layout but with a modern twist.
Designed by internationally-acclaimed golf architect Clive Clark, playing a round at Dumbarnie is all about enjoying the game in its natural, historic setting: a beautifully-maintained links course overlooking the Firth of Forth.
A picturesque opener, the first hole plays from an elevated tee down towards a generous, wide fairway. There are no bunkers in the landing area but that doesn’t mean this is a completely straightforward start. A burn runs down the left hand side and across the front of the green. The temptation is to take an extra club to guarantee you clear it. However, there are two revetted pot bunkers at the back of the green awaiting any over-earnest approaches.
