Anstruther is a popular destination for golfers looking for something different – and keen to take on the challenge of the course’s trio of challenging Par 3s, starting with the 5th (the infamous Rockies), voted the UK’s toughest par 3 in 2007 by Today’s Golfer.
Stretching along the shoreline between Anstruther and Pittenweem, when it opened in 1890, Anstruther Golf Course was a 7 hole course. The course and its clubhouse both have spectacular views over Anstruther Harbour, across to the Isle of May and towards Edinburgh, with Anstruther Golf Club proudly offering a warm ‘Anster’ welcome to all.
The opening drive is a long uphill shot. The longer hitter will hope to make the brow of the hill, but most will have to settle for a position on the slope leaving a short blind second with a bunker to the right hand side of the green.
